BSc Computer Science

Course Overview

The BSc Computer Science at University College Birmingham (UCB) offers students a strong theoretical and practical foundation in computing. Candidates will begin with core topics, including programming, mathematics for computing, web development, and databases, and then progress to advanced modules such as cloud computing, mobile computing, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

They will make use of University College Birmingham’s modern computing labs and the dedicated Cyber Security Lab, and students will complete a significant research or development project. Through a combination of coursework, project work, practical labs, and sometimes exams, assessments are made, giving students various ways to demonstrate their skills. The course also includes an optional paid 48-week work placement in industry (during which students do not pay tuition) to gain hands-on experience and improve employability.

Entry Requirements for Egyptian Students

Grade Requirements:

  • Tariff: Other Level 3 qualifications are accepted for entry. A minimum of 96 UCAS Tariff points is required.
  • A-levels: An A-level grade profile of CCC.
  • BTEC: A BTEC grade profile of MMM, achievable through either an Extended Diploma or a combination of smaller BTEC qualifications.
  • T-levels: A T-level graded Pass with a core component grade of C.

English Language Requirements:

  • IELTS: Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds must demonstrate proficiency in English, with an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (and at least 5.5 in each component) or an equivalent SELT test score.

Cost of Study

The international tuition fee for BSc Computer Science at University College Birmingham is £16,000 per year.

Scholarships

University College Birmingham provides a range of support designed to encourage applicants to access programmes of study at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and to be successful in their studies. Part of this support is in the form of financial support and other benefits. For international students, the  International Scholarship or Discount is a scholarship where international students may qualify for a tuition discount of £1,000 in the first year if they pay the deposit by certain deadlines.  Alumni Scholarship replaces the undergraduate-to-postgraduate waiver, offering either 25% or 20% off for eligible progression students. While the Continuation Scholarship is open to returning international undergraduate students (in years 2 and 3) receive £2,000 each year.
