Professional Doctorate Healthcare Science
Course overview
The Professional Doctorate in Healthcare Science allows experienced professionals to advance their practice through research, innovation, and leadership. This course is open to a wide range of clinical practitioners, including nurses, doctors, and healthcare scientists. Students will engage in taught modules and a major research project, building on their professional experience to contribute new evidence-informed practice.
This is a full-time 3-year programme where students can join at Level 7, and students with a Master's qualification can join at Level 8. It can also be a part-time programme (up to 5 years) with start options in January or September.
Assessment includes research proposals, publications, and a doctoral dissertation, supervised by research-active staff. Students will have access to specialist on-campus facilities, including laboratories for gait analysis, biomechanics, human performance, physiology, sports therapy, and strength and conditioning.
Entry requirements
Grade Requirements:
- Applicants entering from Level 7 normally need a good honours degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent in a relevant healthcare science or related discipline; alternatively, significant professional experience may be considered.
- If entering at Level 8 (having a relevant Master’s degree), applicants should hold a Master’s degree in a related field or demonstrate equivalent professional research experience.
English Language requirements:
- For International students, applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency through a minimum 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each discipline.
