Professional Doctorate Health Psychology
Course overview
The Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology at Staffordshire University was the first programme of its kind approved as a Stage 2 training by the British Psychological Society (BPS). Completion of this course enables students to register as Chartered Health Psychologists with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). It is a research-focused qualification emphasizing five key professional skills: research, psychological treatment, consulting, workplace practice, and teaching.
The programme emphasizes workplace learning, allowing students to develop professional skills in health-related placements. Interactive classes support practical development, and students are required to complete two major research projects—a systematic review and an evidence-based study—intended for publication. Full-time students typically spend at least two years completing their placements.
