MSc Software Engineering

Course Overview

This Master's course in Software Engineering helps students gain more knowledge and skills in making applications for computers, websites, phones, and other systems. The course covers important business topics and teaches programming in languages like Java, JavaScript, and PHP. It also shows how to put software into different types of devices.

The course is split into three parts. It includes main subjects such as Multi-tier Application Architecture, Research Methods, and Enterprise Cloud Computing using AWS. There are also other subjects students can choose. The last part of the Master's course is a dissertation project.

In this course, students will learn through lectures, group work, practical lessons, workshops, and by studying on their own or with guidance. Research projects are often a major part of studying for this Master's degree.

  • To be considered, prospective students must possess an undergraduate degree with at least a second-class honours classification, which means a 2.2 grade or higher. This primary qualification should be in a Computing-related discipline.
  • The degree must have been awarded by a recognised university within the United Kingdom.
  • An equivalent qualification obtained from an international institution will also be accepted, provided it meets the required academic standard.

English Proficiency:

  • If English is not the applicant's main language, the applicant will need to score 6.5 overall in IELTS (with 5.5 in each section) or submit equivalent SELT test scores.

Cost of Study

For the course commencing on 22 September 2025, for full-time international students, the fee is £16,750.

Scholarships

For those undertaking a full Master's degree, there is a possibility of securing a postgraduate loan. This financial assistance, which can amount to as much as £11,222, is specifically designed to help students manage their course fees, living expenses, and other associated costs throughout their studies. It provides a significant contribution towards making postgraduate education more accessible.

These student loans are provided by the Student Loans Company (SLC) and are available for postgraduate degrees. What is particularly helpful is that the loan is flexible and can support various methods of study, including part-time, full-time, and even distance learning programmes, allowing students to choose the option that best suits their situation.
