MEng Aerospace Engineering

Course Overview

The MEng Aerospace Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University is a four-year master’s-level degree. Students learn how to design and build aircraft systems. The course covers topics like aerodynamics, propulsion, control systems, materials, and avionics. It blends practical lab work, simulation, live projects, and industry input to help students become job-ready engineers. In the early years, students study the basics of aerospace design, thermodynamics, structures, flight mechanics, and systems. They take part in live projects that start in the first year. A placement year between the second and third years helps students gain real work experience.

The final year includes an industrial group project, where students work with industry partners to tackle real aerospace challenges. Learning takes place through lectures, tutorials, and hands-on lab sessions. Students practice computational modelling, simulation, system design, and flight simulation. Assessments include exams, coursework, case studies, phase tests, presentations, viva talks, and portfolios. Activities include spaceship and drone competitions, guest talks, field trips to aerospace sites, and networking events.
