The BEng Marine and Mechanical Engineering at London John Moores University is a three-year undergraduate degree that prepares students for careers in the marine and mechanical engineering sector. They will learn construction, 3D visualisation, AutoCAD, and its alignment with onshore and offshore activities. Specifically, students will apply engineering principles to solve problems related to hydropower.
In this programme, students will learn how to design, build, develop, and maintain mechanical devices and systems, ranging from engines and machines to renewable energy systems and prosthetic limbs. They will also examine principles of physics and materials science to analyse problems and create solutions, working on everything from product conception and testing to manufacturing and installation, especially under onshore and offshore conditions. Learning in this course is through lectures, tutorials, and video resources. Assessment is done through periodic tests, assignments, examinations, and project work.
LJMU has one of the top engineering departments in the UK, a supportive staff team, and outstanding facilities. These include engine testing facilities, a complete marine engine room, bridge simulators, materials testing laboratories, and digital design studios, all of which students can fully utilise during practical sessions.
LJMU offers modern facilities that enhance the academic experience for students. This includes high-quality lecture theatres, meeting and seminar rooms, as well as social spaces and a large café. Additionally, there are staff quarters for lecturers, making it easier for students to access them for clarification and counselling.
