Course overview

The Leeds Trinity University MA Mental Health in Children and Young People is a practitioner-led course at Leeds Trinity University. It examines the nature of mental health in educational and social care settings. The programme is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to work in multi-professional environments, with an emphasis on supporting and promoting positive mental health in individuals and their families. The course will address present issues and allow students to identify wellbeing concerns, understand the role of organisations in supporting mental health, and develop a preventative approach to meeting needs.

The course uses a multi-disciplinary approach to ensure the course is balanced and all the modules incorporate theory, practice, and research, which are focused on evidence-based methods for early intervention. The students will learn through four main modules and will be able to select optional modules, and are assessed through written essays, case study reports, research proposals, research critiques, reflective portfolios, online seminars and a major research project. The university also offers additional support that includes one-to-one sessions and tutorials to help the students with their academic work.
