MSc Biomedical Science: Medical Microbiology

Course Overview

This Kingston University MSc Biomedical Science: Medical Microbiology is intended for individuals who wish to work in biomedical or research careers. It provides extensive knowledge and skills relating to microbial diseases, their global and public health implications, and diagnostic methods. The curriculum focuses on understanding current and new pathogens, how they cause disease, and interactions between the host and the pathogen. The program also explores strategies for managing and preventing diseases.

The course is delivered by the School of Life Sciences, Pharmacy and Chemistry and is recognised by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS). It consists of four taught modules and an extended laboratory research project, which can be completed over 12 months as a standard program or over two years with an optional integrated work placement. The program is taught with a variety of formative and summative assessments, including written reports, essays, presentations, research proposals and in-class tests. A significant element of the course is a capstone project where students apply the knowledge and skills they have gained.

Entry Requirements for Egyptian Students

To be enrolled, you need to submit a personal statement in which you discuss your reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding your studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. You also have the option to upload your CV along with your applications to demonstrate your work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • You need at least a lower second-class honours degree in a relevant field such as biomedical science, medical microbiology, medical genetics, molecular biology, haematology, or immunology. 
  • Other biology and medical science degrees will also be considered on an individual basis, provided the student has enough relevant experience in immunology and medical microbiology. 
  • Candidates with non-standard qualifications and relevant professional experience are also welcome to apply.

English Proficiency:

  • If you are from a non-English speaking background need to score 6.5 overall in Academic IELTS, with no section below 6.0, or submit equivalent test scores.

International Students pay £19,300 as the annual tuition fee for the MSc Biomedical Science: Medical Microbiology at Kingston University.

Scholarships

Kingston University provides various scholarships for postgraduate students, including the Postgraduate Progression Scholarship, which offers a 15% tuition fee reduction for eligible graduates from the university.
