About University

De Montfort University (DMU), located in Leicester, England, has a rich heritage dating back to the founding of the Leicester School of Art in 1870. It evolved through several educational institutions before gaining full university status in 1992. The university is named after Simon de Montfort, a 13th-century figure credited with pioneering England’s first parliament. Today, DMU is known for its strong emphasis on practical learning, innovation, and inclusivity.

De Montfort University is structured around four main faculties: Arts, Design and Humanities; Business and Law; Health and Life Sciences; and Computing, Engineering and Media. The university received a Gold rating in the UK’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), recognising the consistently high quality of its teaching and student outcomes. It uses an innovative block teaching model, where students focus on one subject at a time, allowing for deeper learning and regular assessment.

DMU has a strong global focus, reflected in its DMU Global programme, which offers international trips, study abroad opportunities, and cultural exchanges. The university’s career initiative, DMUworks, helps students build employability skills through placements, internships, and career coaching.
