BSc Data Science

The BSc (Hons) Data Science with Foundation Year is a four-year programme at Buckinghamshire New University designed to teach students the skills and knowledge needed to collect, store, analyse, and use data for different purposes and industries. The Foundation Year is to build crucial academic study skills which help students gain confidence and identify areas for personal development by thoroughly preparing them for the full undergraduate degree.

Over the course of the programme, learning involves different methods that effectively utilise the latest technology, with lectures, tutorials, seminars, and practical sessions. There is a step-by-step process from formal teaching to student-centred and independent learning. 

Assessment is done through coursework which includes written assignments, practical exercises, presentations, and other individual or group tasks, and some tests or examinations, all fully supported by the university's Virtual Learning Environment.

Buckinghamshire New University was established in 1891 and gained its university status in 2007. It is a futuristic institution with other campuses in High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Uxbridge, and Great Missenden, with 8,000 students. The university is known for teaching unique courses, with more provision for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in many fields such as computing, business, design, and health.

Grade Requirements: 

• Applicants for the BSc (Hons) Data Science with Foundation Year programme need a UCAS score between 32 - 56. 
• With qualifications such as A-levels, T-levels, BTEC qualifications, or an Access to Higher Education course in a relevant subject.
• A minimum of two full A-levels (or equivalent qualifications) is accepted.

English Proficiency: 

• Applicants need an IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with no individual component score lower than 5.5, or submit recognised equivalent test scores. 
• TOEFL (iBT) 80, Duolingo English Test 110, or Pearson Test of English (Academic) 55.

The tuition fees for the BSc (Hons) Data Science with Foundation Year programme for the Year 2025/26 are £15,150 per year.

Buckinghamshire New University offers several scholarships for self-funded international undergraduate students paying overseas fees. New students may qualify for a scholarship of £1,500 in their first year of study, with potential for further amounts upon successful progression to subsequent years. Additionally, an early payment fee reduction of £500 is available if the full tuition fee (of at least £15,000) is paid by August 1, 2025, for September 2025 starters.
