PhD Metallurgy
Course overview
The PhD Metallurgy course at Brunel University London is offered by the Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification (BCAST). The course focuses on the science and engineering of metal materials, which includes studying things like liquid metal, how metals are shaped using heat and pressure and making new types of metal alloys. A main goal is "full metal circulation," which means recycling and reusing metals as much as possible.
This course teaches both the basic science and the practical ways metals are used. It works with companies to make sure metallurgical processes are sustainable. Entry requirements
Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other needful information about their education. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CVs along with their applications to show their work experience.
Grade Requirements:
- To be accepted, applicants need a First or an Upper Second Class Honours degree (1st or a 2:1).
- Applicants will also be interviewed by at least two academic staff members, and this can happen online using tools such as MS Teams or Zoom, or in person.
English Proficiency:
- For international applicants from countries where English is not the main language, an IELTS overall score of 6.5 is required, with no part lower than 6.0.
- Other accepted tests include a Pearson score of 59 with at least 59 in each section, a BrunELT score of 63% (with at least 58% in each area), or a TOEFL score of 90 overall with at least 20 in each section.

Cost of study
