PhD Biomedical Engineering
Course overview
The PhD Biomedical Engineering at the University of Surrey gives you the chance to employ cutting-edge science to make discoveries that will contribute to solving medical problems with engineering tools. This doctoral degree will give you the knowledge, skills, and expertise needed for a career in engineering, research, or academia. You will be intellectually challenged, develop research and management skills, and become an expert in your chosen field.
A full-time PhD normally takes around three years to complete. You will be assigned a minimum of two supervisors who will guide you through your studies. You will learn how to conduct literature reviews, develop original ideas, verify them with experiments, and perform interdisciplinary research. Your skills will develop over time, allowing you to become an independent researcher able to solve biomedical problems using engineering principles.
You will benefit from the Centre for Biomedical Engineering at the University of Surrey, which provides world-class research into key areas such as biomedical signal processing and biomechanics. Your final assessment is based on a written thesis that presents your research. This will then be discussed in a viva examination with at least two examiners. Studying a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Surrey provides the high-quality environment needed to excel at the highest level of research.
