MSc Nanotechnology and Renewable Energy

Course Overview

The MSc Nanotechnology and Renewable Energy at the University of Surrey is a futuristic programme designed to equip students with knowledge and practical skills in two highly innovative and growing fields, which are nanotechnology and sustainable energy. This course helps students explore how nanotechnology can enhance the development of cleaner, more efficient energy solutions and contribute to global environmental goals. Students will be taught topics such as nanomaterials, energy harvesting, storage technologies, and the integration of these advanced materials into renewable energy systems.

This master’s course combines scientific theory with hands-on experience, including modules on nanofabrication, solar cells, nanoelectronic devices, and renewable energy systems. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of the principles behind energy conversion and the applications of nanomaterials in the real world. The programme also teaches essential skills in research and project management, preparing students to contribute meaningfully to industries like green energy, environmental consulting, and advanced material development.

Learning is delivered through a combination of lectures, laboratory work, seminars, group projects, and independent study, while assessment methods include exams, group presentations, laboratory reports, and a major research project or dissertation. Before the end of this programme, students will get to complete practical assignments and coursework aimed at developing problem-solving abilities, research methods, and technical expertise. The final project allows students to explore a topic of their choice in depth, applying everything they have learnt during the course.
