BSc Psychology with foundation year and placement

University of Surrey

Course overview

The BSc (Hons) Psychology with a foundation year and placement is an extended five-year programme that combines preparatory academic study with professional work experience. The foundation year is included for applicants who need to strengthen their academic knowledge or who did not meet the standard entry requirements for the three-year honours degree.

After completing the foundation year, students are then allowed to undertake the British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited degree, which includes another Professional Training year in industry. This paid placement year gives students on-the-job experience in fields like healthcare or commerce, and it makes starting a career much easier.

Entry requirements

To be enrolled, candidates need to submit a personal statement and a relevant academic and/or employer reference. They also have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants typically need A-level grades of CCC, or 29 points in the International Baccalaureate Diploma, for entry to the foundation year pathway. The university will accept international qualifications that are equivalent to A-levels.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in the Writing section and 5.5 in all other elements (Reading, Listening, Speaking), or they may submit equivalent accepted English language test scores.
