BEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering

Course Overview

The BEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering programme provides students with the technical and analytical skills essential for a career in electronic and electrical engineering. The course covers key areas such as electronic principles, design, automation, control, and instrumentation systems. It is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and partially fulfils the academic requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

Students engage in design-based and project-oriented learning, addressing real-world technological challenges. The course also includes an optional paid work placement between the second and final years, offering valuable industry experience. Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, group projects, laboratory sessions, and e-learning, complemented by independent study. Assessment is through examinations, multiple-choice tests, and major design projects.

Entry Requirements for Sri Lankan Students

Applicants must submit a personal statement detailing their motivation for the course, an academic and/or employer reference, and a CV outlining their academic background and relevant experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • 96–112 UCAS points obtained through A-levels, Scottish Highers, T Levels, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Equivalent international qualifications to A-levels are accepted.
  • GCSE grade 4/C or above in English and Mathematics (or equivalent qualification).

English Proficiency:

  • IELTS overall score of 6.0, with no component below 5.5.
  • Other accepted English tests include PTE Academic and Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for international students enrolled in the BEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering programme at the University of Sunderland is £16,500 per year, subject to annual revision.

Scholarships

The University of Sunderland provides financial assistance to international undergraduate students through various scholarships and fee discounts. The Global Leaders Scholarship is a prestigious award offering a £5,000 reduction in tuition fees per year. This scholarship is awarded automatically to eligible students and will be specified in the conditional offer letter. However, applicants from certain regions such as East Asia, the Gulf States, and Europe may not be eligible.

Other financial support options include the International Scholarship or Fee Reduction, which grants a £1,400 discount on tuition fees for the first year. Region-Specific Scholarships are also available, such as those for students from Africa, which may provide up to £5,000 per year in financial support.
