MSc Biomedical Sciences

Course Overview

The MSc Biomedical Sciences at the University of Strathclyde provides training in bioinformatics and laboratory skills. Students have the option of pursuing a clinically-oriented or a basic life science research pathway. The course is offered through lectures, tutorials, and practicals.

Basic skills in biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, and pharmacology are covered in the curriculum. It also covers transferable skills which include statistics, communication, ethics and critical data analysis. The evaluation of students on their laboratory project is done by the use of multiple-choice tests, quizzes, presentations, essays, and a written thesis.

Entry Requirements for Sri Lankan Students

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants are required to have a minimum second-class (2:2) honours degree, or its international equivalent, in a biological or chemical discipline.

English Proficiency:

  • If English is not your first language, you will need a minimum IELTS score of 6.0, with no component below 5.5.
  • Equivalent test scores such as TOEFL or PTE are also accepted.

Cost of Study

The annual tuition fee for international students on the MSc Biomedical Sciences at the University of Strathclyde is £31,250.

Scholarships

There are several scholarship opportunities at the University of Strathclyde to assist students with their studies. These include the Glasgow 850 International Masters Scholarships, which can offer awards of between £5,000 and £8,000 to eligible international students.

There are also Faculty of Engineering Dean's International Excellence Awards, valued at £7,000 to £10,000, for exceptional applicants. The university also offers a 15% tuition fee discount to its alumni who are returning for a postgraduate taught course.
