BSc Digital Forensics
Course overview
The BSc Digital Forensics at the University of South Wales is a course that teaches students how to find and use digital information (data) to solve crimes. When crimes happen online or are planned using computers, digital forensics is very important for finding the people who are responsible and proving what happened.
Studying BSc Digital Forensics from the University of South Wales helps you learn the skills needed to solve online problems that affect society and businesses. You will learn skills such as gathering evidence, looking closely at digital data, recreating digital events (like figuring out how an attack happened), and speaking in court as a trusted witness.
In the first year, students learn the basic ideas of computing. This includes understanding tools for cybersecurity and how to manage information safely. Right from the start, students take the ideas they learn in the classroom and immediately practice them with hands-on exercises. The second year then uses this basic knowledge to focus more deeply on the different areas of digital forensics and technical skills. In the third year, you will improve your skills even more by working on your own individual project.
The university has special, high-specification labs which are like a digital playground. Here, you will do investigations, practice responding to fake live attacks, and be trained as an expert witness. The labs have a separate cyber network so you can safely practice things like password cracking and malware analysis without affecting the main university network. This practical training prepares you for a career fighting cybercrime.
