BSc Computer Networks and Security

Course Overview

The BSc Computer Networks and Security at the University of Portsmouth is designed to prepare students to manage modern digital infrastructure, from the Internet to large-scale cloud environments. 

The programme covers the design, build, and troubleshooting of complex computer networks using industry-leading technologies like Cisco and VMware, as well as practical experience in infrastructure security, firewalls, cyber security, virtualisation, and network modelling platforms.

Learning involves lectures with practical laboratory sessions using bespoke network labs, while assessment methods involve coursework, practical projects, and written examinations throughout the programme.

Entry Requirements for Sri Lankan Students

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement explaining the reasons for their application to the course and providing other relevant details about their studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also needed. Students can also include their CVs to show their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Candidates typically require 112-120 UCAS tariff points from A-Levels at BBB-BBC, a BTEC Extended Diploma at DDM-DMM, an overall Merit in a T Level, or an International Baccalaureate at 27 points.

  • International qualifications equivalent to A-levels are also accepted.

English Proficiency:

  • Candidates from non-English-speaking countries must demonstrate their English language proficiency by achieving an overall score of 6.0 in the IELTS, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.

  • Other English language qualifications, like TOEFL, are also accepted.

Cost of Study

The current cost for studying BSc Computer Networks and Security in the University of Portsmouth is £19,200 per year for International students, but this may increase subsequently.
