BA Computer Games Design

Course Overview

The BA Computer Games Design at the University of Portsmouth is a three-year undergraduate course that prepares students to become game designers and developers for the global technology industry. The programme explores the systems, gameplay, user experience, and narrative structure of game design as well as prototyping game ideas and launching a commercial game.

Teaching is carried out by experts with strong industry connections and the use of facilities such as the UK's Centre for Creative Immersive and Extended Reality (CCIXR) and PlayStation 5 development kits. Assessment involves project portfolios, prototypes, and coursework that showcase practical skills as well as a one-year professional work placement to gain further experience.

Entry Requirements for Sri Lankan Students

Candidates are typically expected to submit a personal statement outlining their motivations for pursuing the course and any relevant academic or personal experiences. A suitable academic and/or employer reference is also usually required. Students may also present their CV alongside their applications to highlight work experience, if applicable.

Grade Requirements: 

  • Candidates generally require 120-128 UCAS points from A-level grades of ABB-BBB, BTEC Extended Diploma with DDM, or an International Baccalaureate Diploma with 24 points.

  • The university also accepts international qualifications that are equivalent to A-levels.

English Proficiency: 

  • Candidates whose first language is not English are required to have an IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.5 in each component. 

  • Equivalent scores from other approved English language tests, such as PTE and TOEFL, are also accepted.

Cost of Study

For international students, the annual tuition fee for the BA Computer Games Design in the University of Portsmouth is £17,900.
