PhD Nanomaterials Science

The PhD Nanomaterials Science at the University of Lincoln is a research programme focused on studying nanotechnology and its applications. Students work on original research projects under the guidance of experts. The course lasts between 2-4 years full-time or 3-8 years part-time, with start dates available in October and January.

Students do not take traditional classes; instead, they focus on their research. They learn advanced skills in research methods, data analysis, and presenting findings at conferences. They are also assessed on the quality of the thesis they submit and their ability to defend it through an oral exam (also known as viva voce).

Graduates gain expertise in nanomaterials science and critical thinking, preparing them for careers in research, academia, nanotechnology, materials science, and industries like biotechnology and energy. 

• Students should choose a research topic that interests them. Next, they need to reach out to professors or academic supervisors who know a lot about that topic. 
• They also need to submit two references and a research proposal that is no longer than 500 words.

Grade Requirements:

• Candidates should have a bachelor's degree with either first-class honours or upper second-class honours in a relevant discipline.

English Proficiency:

• Students from abroad who are non-native English speakers need a score of at least 6.0 on the IELTS test, with no skill area lower than 5.5. Other accepted tests include TOEFL IBT and Cambridge English Advanced.
• There are also pre-sessional English courses available for applicants who do not meet the proficiency requirements.

International students enrolling in the University of Lincoln PhD Nanomaterials Science programme will need to pay a tuition fee of £18,500 per year. Additionally, students with a Thesis Pending status will need to pay £2,700. Please keep in mind that these fees are for the 2025/26 academic year and may be subject to change.

The University of Lincoln has different scholarship options to help students with their tuition costs. International students can apply for the International Undergraduate Scholarship, which gives up to £2,000 each year, or the Global Leaders Scholarship, which offers a 50% discount on tuition fees for one year.

There is also the Lincoln Alumni MSc Social Work Scholarship. This scholarship provides £1,000 each year to students who completed an undergraduate degree at Lincoln before enrolling in the MSc Social Work programme.

Lastly, the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship pays full tuition fees for one year for students from specific partner schools around the world.
