PhD Aerospace Engineering

University of HertfordshireUniversity of Hertfordshire, Hatfield

Course overview

This PhD Aerospace Engineering at the University of Hertfordshire allows students to focus their research on expert areas like how air moves (aerodynamics), how aircraft parts bend (aeroelasticity), control systems, and how strong aircraft structures are (structural analysis). Students do their work in well-equipped labs and receive money from outside sources, such as the EPSRC and companies, to support their research.

The PhD Aerospace Engineering from the University of Hertfordshire helps students gain high-level knowledge and research skills to solve tough problems. Importantly, the university is highly rated in this subject, being ranked 1st in the East of England for this field in 2023.

To do their learning, students will have regular meetings with two supervisors who are experts in their research topic. Full-time students must write formal progress reports in the first and second years, which are checked in a formal talk known as a viva. The degree is given once they successfully submit a major written report (thesis) and pass the final viva, where internal and outside experts test their knowledge.
