Masters by Research Mechanical Engineering
University of HertfordshireUniversity of Hertfordshire, Hatfield
Course overview
This Masters by Research Mechanical Engineering at University of Hertfordshire is a non-taught research programme intended for students who wish to conduct a specialist investigation into an engineering topic. The course is completed over 12 months if studied full-time, or 24 months for those studying part-time.
Students are supervised by a team consisting of a Principal and a second supervisor, both of whom are experts in areas such as applied mechanics, surface engineering, and fracture mechanics. The research work is supported by the University's well-equipped laboratories and facilities.
This degree means students must show strong research skills by finishing a large research project. The final grade is only based on submitting a written report (thesis) and defending it in a formal talk, called a viva. Students also have an early viva a few months after starting, to check that their research is on track and suitable.
