University of Greenwich

LLB Law Extended

University of Greenwich

Course overview

Studying the LLB Law (Extended) degree at the University of Greenwich begins with a foundation year to prepare students who may not yet meet standard entry requirements. The first year focuses on building essential study skills, academic writing, introduction to the English legal system, Introduction to criminology, ethics and society, and business law.

After the foundation year, the students proceed through the standard three-year LLB structure covering core legal modules such as Public Law, Contract Law, Land Law, Law of Torts, Criminal Law, Company and Partnership Law, Medical Law, Competition Law, Intellectual Property Law, Commercial Law, Financial Services Law, and placements.

Teaching and assessment include lectures, seminars, and small-group tutorials by research-active academics and legal practitioners, and assessment is by a combination of essays, case studies, exams, advocacy, and practical legal work. The programme is a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) recognised by the Bar Standards Board and prepares students for the forthcoming Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE). It offers strong employability links with law firms, barristers’ chambers, and features the university’s Legal Advice Centre, where students can engage with real cases.

The University of Greenwich offers law school resources, access to a legal advice clinic, and opportunities for volunteer work and networking with London-based legal employers. The course runs full-time for four years, including a foundation year, and offers progression agreement to the US JD programme (Juris Doctor - the American law degree) or LLM programme with our partners at Mitchell Hamline School of Law (MHSL).
