BSc Applied Biomedical Science
Course overview
This four-year sandwich degree is approved by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) and trains students to become registered Biomedical Scientists. Students first join the standard degree, then apply in their first year for an optional year-long placement in an NHS hospital laboratory. The course focuses on human diseases, plus the medical tests and research methods used in hospitals.
The programme gives Students a strong base of knowledge of human disease, using real-life examples from hospitals to help them learn better. Their study involves lectures, smaller discussion groups, and hands-on laboratory work. Their grade is based on a mix of written exams and coursework. When they finish their NHS placement successfully, they can register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
