BEng Chemical Engineering

University of Greenwich

Course overview

The BEng Chemical Engineering (with Sandwich) at the University of Greenwich teaches the main ideas of chemical engineering. It explains how raw materials are turned into useful products using chemical and physical processes. The course combines science, maths, and engineering and shows how they are used in real industries. Students study topics such as energy use, materials, heat transfer, and fluid flow. These topics help explain how chemical systems work and how they are designed and controlled. Practical laboratory sessions allow students to test what they learn in class.

As students move through the course, they learn about chemical reactions, separation processes, and process design. They also study how industrial systems are run safely and efficiently. The sandwich year is taken between the second and final year. During this year, students work full-time in an engineering-related job and gain practical experience. Students are taught using lectures, lab work, and group activities. Assessment is carried out through coursework, exams, lab reports, presentations, and project work. In the final year, students study advanced topics and complete a major research project.
