LLM International Criminal Law
Course overview
The University of Essex LLM International Criminal Law teaches students about legal institutions and practices related to prosecuting individuals for genocide and other crimes against humanity. This course builds students' analytical, communication, and advocacy skills required to excel in the field of International Criminal Law.
Students learn about the origin of criminal law, the role of international courts like the International Criminal Court (ICC), and the relationship between international criminal law and other fields like human rights and humanitarian law. They also offer electives in some areas like terrorism, transnational organised crime (including drug and human trafficking, cybercrime), and international criminal procedure.
Additionally, students undertake research alongside practical sessions like moot court simulations. They also gain knowledge through lectures from industry experts, as well as opportunities for research internships.
