BA Interior Architecture
Course overview
The University of East London Interior Architecture Foundation Year is a special first year designed to help students adjust to university life, build confidence, and master essential skills for their degree. This foundation year will help students develop skills like academic writing, critical thinking, communication, and information analysis before students move into specific architecture and design subjects.
Key required classes include Mental Wealth and Professional Fitness and a special architecture project. Students are graded continuously throughout the year; they develop studio work for a final portfolio and submit supporting written work as reports. The course uses a hands-on, tutor-supported learning environment and does not use traditional closed-book exams during the main degree stages.
Entry requirements
Candidates need to submit a personal statement, and they are strongly encouraged to submit a digital portfolio of their work as part of the application process. The portfolio should showcase broad examples of their work, reflecting their creative ability, potential, and understanding of spatial awareness. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also needed.
Grade Requirements:
-
Applicants need 64 UCAS tariff points from an equivalent Level 3 qualification. This can be achieved through qualifications such as A-levels, a BTEC Extended Diploma at the MPP grade, or an Access to HE Diploma with 64 UCAS points or an international equivalent.
English Proficiency:
-
Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds must achieve a minimum overall score of 5.5 in the IELTS, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.
-
The university also accepts several other recognised English language qualifications, such as TOEFL and PTE.
