MEng Mechanical Engineering With Year Abroad
Course overview
The MEng Mechanical Engineering with Year Abroad at the University of East Anglia (UEA) is a four-year undergraduate programme designed as a pathway towards becoming a Chartered Engineer. The course helps students understand how engineering systems work, strengthen problem-solving skills, and prepare for successful careers across a wide range of engineering industries.
In the first year, students follow an integrated engineering programme that builds core knowledge, technical skills, and industry awareness. From the second year onwards, the focus shifts to mechanical engineering specialisms including solid and fluid mechanics, control systems, thermodynamics, design, and manufacturing.
In the final year, students work on a real-world industrial brief, applying an engineering approach to solve practical problems. This includes site visits, workshop-based design development, and writing professional proposals for client presentation. Students benefit from access to industry-standard facilities such as CAD workstations, 3D printers, subtractive manufacturing technologies, and collaborative robotics.
