BSc Computer Science With Foundation Year
Course overview
This is a four-year programme that starts with a foundation year dedicated to teaching students the basics of computer science, mathematics, and study skills. This first year helps them strengthen their knowledge and confidence before they start the core degree.
The course focuses on applied computer science with a firm attention on practical programming skills, using the latest industry software in specialist laboratories. Students have the opportunity to switch between related degree courses (like cybersecurity) after the foundation year, and there are no written exams, as performances are checked through coursework only.
Entry requirements
Candidates are to submit a personal statement in which they clearly list their reasons for applying for the course and submit other information in relation to their studies. A relevant academic or employer reference must also be submitted. Students can upload their CVs together with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.
Grade Requirements
To apply for this four-year course, applicants must achieve 72 UCAS Tariff points. If they have a BTEC Extended Diploma, they need a grade of MMP. They must also have GCSEs in math and English at grade 4 (C) or higher. This foundation year is built for students who do not meet the direct entry requirements for the standard three-year degree.
English Language Requirements
Applicants from non-English-speaking countries must achieve an overall IELTS score of 6.0 with no score less than 5.5 in each skill area or submit equivalent scores from other accepted tests.
