MArch Architecture Part II
Course overview
This MArch Architecture (Part II) course at the University of Lancashire concentrates on new ideas in design and modern ways of creating buildings and city planning to get students ready for work as professionals. It is for graduates who have completed Part 1, and it is a required step to become a fully qualified architect, aimed at exempting students from the RIBA Part 2 examination. The subjects students study are based on current issues in the region, including how to make cities sustainable, protect historic buildings, and renew old industrial areas.
Students' learning is focused on studio work, which includes regular one-to-one tutoring from top architects and experts in the field. Assessments will come from coursework, written papers, and creating a professional portfolio of their work, which features presentation items and 3D models (artefacts). Students will get real-world experience by working on live projects with local people and industry professionals.
Entry requirements
Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience. All applications are judged on their merits, taking into account academic history, practical experience, and personal motivation.
Grade Requirements:
-
Applicants need at least a 2:2 Bachelor's Degree (Second-Class Honours) in Architecture (with ARB/RIBA recognised Part I) or a similar degree.
-
The University also prefers candidates to have completed a period of time (usually one year) in architectural practice, which is the professional experience needed for RIBA Stage 1. Students without a recognised ARB/RIBA Part 1 qualification must arrange for that recognition externally.
English Proficiency:
-
Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need to score a minimum of 6.0 overall in the IELTS Academic test, with no individual component score lower than 5.5, or submit equivalent Secure English Language Test (SELT) scores.
-
These scores ensure that all students can understand lectures, participate in studio discussions, and complete the necessary written work.
