BSc Strength, Conditioning and Sports Nutrition Top-up

Course Overview

This one-year BSc Strength, Conditioning and Sports Nutrition Top-up at University College Birmingham course is for students who already hold a relevant Level 5 qualification and wish to complete a full degree. The course uses the latest research to train students to become effective strength and conditioning coaches and experts in sports nutrition. The programme covers how to use nutritional plans to improve athlete performance and how to develop athletic fitness.

This course is one of the few in the UK accredited by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Learning involves hands-on practical work in excellent facilities, including the Human Performance Centre, as well as a work placement. Most assessment is completed through projects (coursework) and practical tasks, which includes a mandatory Sport and Nutrition Project module.

Entry Requirements for Sri Lankan Students

Candidates need to submit a personal statement that clearly discusses their reasons for choosing the course and other relevant information about their studies. A supporting reference from either a teacher (academic) or an employer is also required. Applicants can also choose to upload a CV with their application to show the university any relevant work experience they have gained.

Grade Requirements:

  • To apply, students need a relevant HND or Foundation Degree (in a subject like Sport and Exercise Science) with 240 credits.
  • Alternatively, if the student is an applicant from Europe or another international location, the university will consider qualifications that include 120 ECTS or the equivalent in a relevant subject.

English Language Requirement:

  • If English is not the first language of students, they must prove their ability by achieving an overall score of 5.5 in IELTS (Academic or UKVI), with a minimum score of 5.0 in every section (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).
  • The university also accepts similar results from other Secure English Language Tests (SELTs), such as an overall score of at least 42 in the Pearson Test of English (PTE).

Cost of Study

The international student tuition fee for the BSc Strength, Conditioning and Sports Nutrition Top-up degree at University College Birmingham (UCB) is £16,500. The tuition fee is, however, subject to a yearly increase.

The Sporting Excellence Scholarship is designed for talented international students with top performance in sports, and successful applicants receive financial help (up to £3,000 over three years for good performers), along with a free gym membership, UCB training kit, and a personalised support plan that includes strength & conditioning and nutrition advice. Students can also benefit from the Early Payment Discount. If students choose to pay a portion of their tuition fee early, a reduction (discount) will be applied directly to their overall tuition fee.
