BA Aesthetic Practitioner Top-up
Course overview
The BA Aesthetic Practitioner Top-up at University College Birmingham is a one-year top-up BA (Hons) in Aesthetic Practitioner, designed for students who already hold a relevant Level 5 qualification or substantial industry experience. Students will build on existing knowledge to learn advanced non-medical aesthetic procedures such as skin rejuvenation, hair removal, and electrical facial/body technologies, while choosing optional pathways in business or training.
Students are taught through lectures, small group teaching, practical sessions in the clinic, and tutorials, with approximately 16 contact hours per week, supplemented by independent study. Assessment is through a mix of coursework and practical evaluations.
Students also have access to the UCB Treatment Rooms clinic, where they practice real non-medical aesthetic treatments under supervision using professional equipment. Additional certifications or short professional training may also be available alongside the degree.
Entry requirements
Candidates must submit a personal statement explaining their motivation for applying and provide a relevant academic or employer reference. Applicants may also upload a CV to demonstrate relevant work or industry experience.
Grade Requirements
- Applicants need a Level 5 qualification such as a Higher National Diploma, Foundation Degree, or equivalent in a relevant subject.
- Applicants with a degree in a different subject may still be considered if they can demonstrate strong, directly relevant professional experience in the aesthetics or beauty sector.
English Proficiency
- IELTS overall score of 6.0, with no section less than 5.5.
- Equivalent tests, such as TOEFL iBT, are also accepted.
