PhD Cancer and Genomics

Swansea University

Course overview

Swansea University’s PhD in Cancer and Genomics is a doctoral programme that prepares students for careers in the healthcare sector. Students will engage in advanced study of the causes and effects of cancer, the structure of genomes, as well as the latest methods for addressing cancer-related challenges.

In this programme, students conduct research on the treatment of cancer, its genetic and genomic aspects, and the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. This course also covers modules in cell biology and bioinformatics, to help students become experts in the field, and also to write a proper dissertation.

Additionally, students use technologies and analytics tools to identify genetic changes in cancer types and develop therapies or biomarkers. These help them to contribute to clinical trials and function well in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors, as well as hospitals.

Learning in this course is through practicals, lectures, seminars, and workshops. Assessment methods include a written thesis, oral examination (viva voce), and evaluation of seminar presentations.
