Course Overview

The Sheffield Hallam University MSc Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a course which aims to equip students with updated knowledge and practical skills in electrical and electronic engineering. The degree, accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), trains graduates to be professional engineers. It is organised in a manner that helps you know how to design and manage electrical systems for a sustainable future, with a focus on real-world projects and placements.

The course builds technical and professional skills with the help of core technical parts, project-based work, work in laboratories, and workshops. All the mandatory modules are assessed through coursework covering the main aspects of digital signal processing, modern electrical systems, and system-on-chip architectures. It is also possible to have an optional work placement of up to 12 months as part of the programme.

Entry Requirements for Sri Lankan Students

To be enrolled, applicants are required to submit an online application that includes a personal statement. This document should discuss their reasons for applying and any other information relevant to their studies. An academic or employer reference is also needed. Students may upload a CV with their application to show any work experience they have.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need at least a second-class honours degree in a relevant science or engineering subject.
  • The university will also consider a suitable professional qualification in an appropriate engineering field.
  • Alternatively, a degree in another discipline may be accepted if the applicant has at least one year of relevant industrial experience.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds are required to have an IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in each section.
  • Other equivalent test scores, like TOEFL and PTE, are accepted by the university.
