BSc Physics with Nuclear Technology
Course overview
The BSc Physics with Nuclear Technology at Nottingham Trent University combines core physics with nuclear applications. Students learn how nuclear technology is used in energy, medicine, propulsion systems and reactors. They build core physics knowledge then move into specialist nuclear topics such as reactor physics, radiation safety and materials. The programme includes hands-on lab work, projects and often a placement year. The programme is accredited by the Institute of Physics.
Delivered on the Clifton Campus, this course normally runs over three years full-time. In the early years, students cover fundamental physics like motion, forces, electromagnetism, waves, and quantum mechanics. Later years include modules such as Nuclear Materials Science, Thermodynamics and Fluid Dynamics. The honours year includes a major research project that often touches on nuclear technology or advanced physics methods.
Learning takes place through lectures, seminars, lab practicals, workshops and independent study. Students perform experiments, analyse data, write up results and work in teams. Assessment includes traditional exams, coursework, lab reports, programming or data projects, and a final major project report or presentation.
