BSc Pharmacology
Course overview
The BSc Pharmacology at Nottingham Trent University explores how drugs act in the body, how medicines work, and how substances can help or harm living systems. Students learn about drug discovery, dose response, molecular targets and how treatments fight disease. The programme mixes theory and hands-on lab work so students build skills in experimental methods and analysis. The programme is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology (complies with British Pharmacological Society guidance).
This course runs on Clifton Campus. It is offered as a 3-year full-time degree or as a 4-year sandwich degree with a placement year. Students take core modules in pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology. In later years, they choose optional topics such as neuropharmacology or immunopharmacology. The final year includes a research project supervised by research-active staff. Learning includes lectures, lab practicals, tutorials and project work. Students will perform assays, analyse data and design experiments. Assessment is through exams, lab reports, essays, project reports and the final research project. Feedback is given to help improve both knowledge and lab technique.
