The BSc Sport and Exercise Science with Foundation Year is a four-year, full-time course. It is made for students who do not quite meet the entry rules for the regular BSc degree. The first year, called the Foundation Year, offers a helpful learning space. It helps students build the scientific knowledge, study skills, and practical abilities they will need for their main degree. The course teaches a solid understanding of the scientific concepts that support sport and exercise performance, as well as useful skills for future employment.
Students in this course also have opportunities to volunteer and join in extra activities. Some parts of the foundation year are shared with other courses, and this means students might be able to change what they specialise in after the first few months. The course is approved by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and meets the standards of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES). Students can also earn professional certificates, like becoming a Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer, or get training to be Sports Ambassadors.
London South Bank University (LSBU) aims to be a lively and engaging place to learn. The university provides various support services to help students, including general assistance and practical advice for new or returning students. It also has a busy Students' Union. LSBU strongly focuses on research, with its degrees designed to help students become knowledgeable specialists.
The university links its study programmes with fun activities through LSBU Active. This offers sports facilities, clubs, leisure options, practical courses, and support for sports science. LSBU also provides many other courses for both undergraduate (first degree) and postgraduate (Master's or PhD) students.
Candidates are required to submit a personal statement where they discuss their reasons for applying for the course. A relevant academic or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CVs to show their work experience.
