LLM Maritime Law

Course Overview

The LLM Maritime Law programme at London Metropolitan University equips students with in-depth knowledge of the legal frameworks that govern shipping claims, trade disputes, and commercial contracts, as this helps students gain confidence in advising clients and managing legal issues in maritime environments.

Students are taught the role of international sales contracts and shipping terms like the bill of lading. The course is taught by legal practitioners and academic experts with direct experience in barristers’ chambers and law firms. The course is delivered entirely online, giving learners from any location the chance to study, research, and progress in their legal careers.

Students are taught through course materials, case studies, and expert-led sessions. This course includes a dissertation project, allowing students to research a maritime law topic of personal or professional interest under the guidance of an expert staff. Students are taught through online lectures and seminar-style discussions with real-world case examples. Students complete assessed activities such as essays, portfolio work, and practical law tasks. The final part of the programme is the dissertation or experiential learning project.
