BSc Biomedical Science including foundation year

Course Overview

The BSc Biomedical Science (with foundation year) at London Metropolitan University is a four-year degree with a foundation year built in. It helps students who do not meet the usual entry requirements. During the foundation year, students study basics like biology, chemistry, numeracy, study skills, and scientific writing. From Year One, students join the regular biomedical science course. Students are taught topics such as human biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, and disease processes. The degree prepares students for lab work, research, and healthcare roles.

The full degree is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS). Graduates are eligible for Associate Membership. This boosts career prospects in medical labs and health science roles. Students are taught using lectures, labs, and helpful feedback from tutors. Students complete low-stakes tests, online quizzes, assignments, lab reports, presentations, and practical tasks. They also work on a final research project in Year 3. Assessment is steady and covers both theory and practical skills.
