MSc Forensic Science

The MSc Forensic Science at Kingston University is accredited by The Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, with two options (Analysis or Toxicology). Forensic Science (Analysis) examines the latest analytical, spectroscopic and separation techniques used in case studies. Forensic Science (Toxicology) offers in-depth training in pharmacology and analytical chemistry.

This programme introduces students to the analytical and forensic techniques encountered in trace and contact evidence analysis. The module focuses on four areas of forensic casework: drugs of abuse, fibre analysis, fire investigation and ballistics. The analytical areas include pharmacology, analytical chemistry, case law, expert witness and statement writing.

Students learn through timetabled sessions, independent study, individual and group projects and are assessed through presentations, performance, essays, reports, self-assessment, portfolios, and dissertations.

Kingston University is located in the riverside town of Kingston, South-West London, England. It was founded in 1899 and was formerly known as Kingston Technical Institute. The university was later referred to as Kingston Polytechnic, before gaining university status in 1992.

Grade Requirements:

• Applicants typically need a 2:2 or above honours degree in Forensic Science, Chemistry or a relevant discipline, e.g. a physical or life sciences, not criminology.
• Applicants with alternative qualifications will also need appropriate experience in analysis.

English Proficiency:

• Applicants who do not speak English as their first language need an overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no element below 6.0.
• Alternative tests such as PTE or TOEFL are accepted.

The tuition fee for this programme is £19,300 per year for international students. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and are subject to change.

Kingston offers several scholarships and bursaries to international undergraduate and postgraduate students. The scholarships are worth £5,000 towards the first year's tuition fees. When the scholarship is awarded and students pay the full tuition fees in advance, there is a deduction of £5,000 from the initial total fees. The £5,000 deduction is done on the final instalment if students are paying by instalments. The Inspire the Future Scholarship offers a 40% reduction in fees for taught master's or postgraduate diploma courses with September start dates.
