LLM Criminal Justice

Course Overview

The LLM Criminal Justice at De Montfort University helps you understand how the criminal justice system works in theory and practice. You will learn about each stage of the process, from investigation to sentencing, and consider how well the law gives justice to both victims and people accused of crimes.

Your teachers will include experienced legal experts such as barristers, solicitors, professors and professionals from around the world. The course mixes academic study with practical activities. You will take part in tasks like presentations, case studies, report writing and essays, which will help you learn how to make and present strong legal arguments.

Lessons are taught in a block format. This makes it easier for you to follow the lessons and understand what you are learning. You will also have access to specialist facilities, including a working crown court, a training courtroom, a simulated Judge’s Chambers and a dedicated law library in the Hugh Aston Building.

The LLM Criminal Justice at De Montfort University finishes with a research-based dissertation or portfolio, giving you the chance to study a topic of personal or professional interest and build a strong foundation for careers in criminal justice, legal practice, policy work or further research.
