BSc Architectural Design and Technology

Course Overview

At Buckinghamshire New University, the BSc (Hons) Architectural Design and Technology course teaches students about designing, using technology in, and managing building projects. Students will gain skills in both hand-drawing and computer design, using industry-standard software like CAD, Revit, 3D Studio Max, Rhino, and Photoshop. The course covers key areas such as building technology, materials, important laws, and how to manage projects.

Students will learn to plan and create building designs by thinking about social, technological, environmental, ethical, and Societal ideas. This programme gets students ready for different jobs such as an Architectural Technologist, a BIM Manager, or a Building Control Surveyor. For those who need to improve their academic skills before starting the full degree, there is an option for an integrated Foundation Year as part of this four-year programme.

Entry Requirements for Sri Lankan Students

Those applying for the course need to write a personal statement and a reference from a teacher or a previous employer. Students can also upload their CVs to show any useful work experience they have. All applicants will need to complete an interview.

Grade Requirements:

  • A UCAS tariff score of 88-112 for full-time study or 32-56 for a Foundation Year. These points can be earned through qualifications like A levels, T levels, BTEC, or an Access to Higher Education course in a relevant subject. A minimum of two full A-levels (or equivalent) is required.
  • If they have no prior study or work experience, or if they don't meet the standard entry requirements, they can still apply for the three-year BSc (Hons) degree, but they might be offered the four-year programme, which includes a Foundation Year

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants need an IELTS minimum overall score of 6.0 with at least 5.5 in all components. Other Accepted Tests are Pearson Test of English Academic with an overall score of 55 with at least 51 in all areas, or an overall score of 59 with at least 55 in all areas.
  • The university also accepts TOEFL iBT with an overall score of 80, with a minimum of 17 in Listening, 17 in Writing, 20 in Speaking, and 18 in Reading.

Cost of Study

For the BSc Architectural Design and Technology programme, international students will pay £15,150 in tuition fees.

Scholarships

Buckinghamshire New University helps international students manage their study expenses. They provide various forms of assistance and scholarships to make a quality education more accessible. A notable option is the Vice Chancellor's International Student Scholarship, which can reduce tuition fees for a student's first year.

If students are paying for their studies, this scholarship can take off £1,500 for undergraduate courses, £3,000 for postgraduate courses, and even £5,000 for certain Master's programmes like the International MBA or MSc Cyber Security. This scholarship is often given automatically to students from other countries who have been offered a place on a full-time course.

Besides this scholarship, the university also offers an International Early Payment Discount of £500 if students pay their full tuition fees early. For those doing a postgraduate course, there are also GREAT Scholarships for students from certain countries, which can cut £10,000 off fees. The university has scholarships for students who are already studying there, too, which could save them up to £5,000 over several years.
