PhD Ageing Studies

Course Overview

The PhD in Ageing Studies at Brunel University London is about the different aspects of getting older. Researchers on this course use science, medicine, and government policy to find ways for older people to live healthier and happier lives. This PhD looks at how our bodies and minds change, and how people deal with things like loneliness, memory, and money in later life.

The course can begin in January, April, or October. Students can finish in three years if they study full-time, or six years if they study part-time. Supervisors guide students with their research. There is also training to help with study skills and future careers.

At Brunel, the progress of PhD students in Ageing is checked through regular reviews to ensure that their research is going well. The final test is to write a long research thesis and defend it in an oral exam called a viva voce. All students must follow the clear rules set by the university for research degrees.
