BEng Computer Systems Engineering

Course Overview

The Brunel University London Computer Systems Engineering programme offers a foundational education in computing and engineering, introducing students to computer hardware, software, and artificial intelligence. The curriculum progresses from core programming and computer architecture to more advanced technologies and devices. 

This programme aims to develop creative, knowledgeable, and professionally minded graduates equipped with the essential understanding and technical abilities required for roles and research in computer systems engineering. The course has a strong focus on embedded systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), and autonomous systems.

Students will learn through interactive projects, practical workshops, and hands-on laboratory activities, utilising modern labs and industry-standard software. Compulsory modules cover areas such as Data and Information, Digital Devices and Systems, Applied Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Embedded Systems, alongside core engineering principles. 

Each academic year includes a project that mimics industrial practice, providing valuable practical skills. The course can be completed in three years full-time, with an optional four-year sandwich option that includes a professional placement year. It is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Entry Requirements for Sri Lankan Students

You must submit a personal statement where you explain why you are applying for the course and share other important details about your studies. You will also need to provide a suitable reference from an academic source or an employer. You have the choice to include your CV with your application to show any work experience you have.

Grade Requirements: 

  • Applicants need 120 UCAS points. This can be achieved with A-level grades between AAB and BBB, an International Baccalaureate Diploma with 30 points, a BTEC National Extended Diploma with DDD, a BTEC Diploma with DD, or a T-level with a Merit. 
  • The university also accepts international qualifications that are considered equal to A-levels.

English Proficiency: 

  • If English is not your main language, you need an IELTS score of 6.0 overall. No section of the test (such as reading or writing) should have a score below 5.5. 
  • The university also accepts comparable scores from other approved tests, including PTE, BrunELT, and TOEFL.

Cost of Study

The annual tuition fee for international students taking the BEng Computer Systems Engineering at Brunel University London for the 2025/26 academic year is £24,795.

Scholarships

Brunel University London offers various scholarships to support eligible international undergraduate students. For the 2025/26 academic year, the Undergraduate International Bursary provides a £3,000 fee reduction for self-funded international undergraduate students entering their first year.
