MA Interpreting, Technology and AI
Course overview
This Master's course helps students become very good at all types of interpreting, including speaking after someone, speaking at the same time as someone, interpreting conversations, and interpreting remotely. It teaches students to use new technologies that use AI for speech and language, getting them ready for a changing interpreting job market. The course is based on top research about mixing professional interpreting with AI tools, and it offers paths for many languages, including Chinese.
Students will get hands-on experience by practising with specific language pairs and by acting out real-life events where many languages are spoken. There will also be talks from guest speakers. The course covers many specific areas like business, law, science, technology, and medicine. Students will learn to use digital tools and AI in their interpreting work wisely. Students can also pick extra subjects to learn about public service interpreting, translating for videos, and mixed interpreting methods.
