BSc Nursing Studies Registered Nurse Children and Young People Nursing

University of Surrey

Course overview

This programme trains students to become Registered Nurses in the care of children and young people. The course balances 50% theory with 50% clinical placements in NHS partner hospitals, in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). This degree qualifies students for professional registration as a Children's Nurse.

In the first year of this programme, students will be taught the basics of children's nursing, including how to care for and understand children's health. In the second year, they will study more advanced issues, like keeping children safe and using research to determine what type of care they will need. Finally, the third year will teach students about caring for children with continuous health issues, and how to make care decisions that affect the child and their family.

Students will be taught by healthcare experts and researchers, and they will learn alongside students from other healthcare disciplines, giving them a broad education. They will be assessed through written coursework, examinations, and simulation classes, building students’ confidence in areas like complex care and leadership.
