MSc Prosthetics Orthotics

Course Overview

The University of Strathclyde’s MSc Prosthetics & Orthotics is a master’s degree where students learn to design, produce, and arrange artificial limbs, called prosthetics, and supportive devices, known as orthotics, to improve patient mobility and quality of life. This course also covers medicine and technology, with biomechanics.

In this programme, students learn anatomy and physiology, which are valuable in prosthetics and orthotics. They also learn to provide adequate care for patients after undertaking clinical placements, which helps them practice. Upon completing this course, graduates can become certified prosthetists and orthotists, rehabilitation engineers, or clinical specialists.

Learning in this course is through lectures, seminars, site visits, independent study, assignments, and a project/dissertation. Students are also assessed by methods such as written assignments, examinations, practical team projects, presentations, and individual projects.
