MSc Design Engineering with Sustainability

Course Overview

The University of Strathclyde's MSc Design Engineering with Sustainability master’s programme combines engineering, design, and sustainability. Students learn how to develop new products and improve existing ones with greener materials, processes, and practices. The course covers product development, technical design, rapid prototyping, design evaluation, design methods, and tackling global market demands for better, cheaper, personalised goods. It aims to equip students to meet modern challenges in innovation, environment, and sustainability.

The programme can be taken full-time over 12 months or part-time over 24 months. Students complete core design engineering theory, technical design modules, and sustainability and materials work. There is also an Industrial Group Project with real clients, so students apply skills in a team. Accreditation is by engineering bodies such as IET, IED, and IMechE. Learning methods include lectures, workshops, seminars, design studios, and hands-on practical workshops. Students also perform rapid prototyping, computer-aided modelling, and evaluation of designs. Assessments are through project work, portfolios, design briefs, and the group project.
