MSc Design Engineering

This programme is for problem solvers who can connect traditional engineering with design, intending to create better, cheaper, and more personal products in the quickest time possible. The course teaches design theories, process models, methods, and computer-aided product modelling, as well as rapid prototyping.

Students learn from top academics and work on a group project with a company to use their skills in a real-world setting. The department is a leader in combining expertise in creative design, engineering, manufacturing, and management. This course is officially recognised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Institution of Engineering Designers, and Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements

• Applicants need at least a second-class honours degree or its international equivalent in a relevant engineering, technology, or science discipline.

English Proficiency

• Applicants from non-English-speaking backgrounds need to score 6.5 overall in IELTS (with 5.5 in each section) or submit equivalent test scores.

The tuition fee for international students is £31,100 per year.

The University of Strathclyde offers several scholarships to help postgraduate students with their fees. International applicants will automatically receive a Glasgow 850 International Master's Scholarship of £5,000, which is taken off their tuition.

In addition, the Faculty of Engineering has a limited number of Dean's International Excellence Awards, valued between £7,000 and £10,000, for outstanding international students.

A Strathclyde graduate can also get a 15% tuition fee discount through the Strathclyde Alumni Scholarship. This provides a great reason to continue your studies at the university.
