MSc Computer Science

Course Overview

The University of Portsmouth Computer Science programme enables students to look into modern trends in computer science and use cutting-edge computing tools. The course focuses on developing in students scientific curiosity and technical skills, offering a complete set of skills in areas such as data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and networking, preparing graduates for advanced roles or further research.

The course involves studying 180 credits across six 30-credit modules, including Intelligent Data and Text Analytics, Parallel Programming, Advanced Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Quantum Computing. A significant Master's Project allows for independent investigation of real-world problems, with the possibility of developing new software or advancing theoretical concepts.

Entry Requirements for Nigerian Students

To be enrolled, you will need to submit a personal statement, and a relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. You can also upload your CV along with your applications to show your work experience.

Grade Requirements: 

  • You need at least a second-class honours undergraduate degree in a relevant subject. 
  • Alternatively, a different degree will be acceptable if the student has enough relevant professional experience and/or qualifications.

English Proficiency: 

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need to score a minimum of 6.0 overall in IELTS, with no component score below 5.5, or submit equivalent test scores like TOEFL or PTE.

Cost of Study

International students will pay £19,200 as the full-time tuition fee for the MSc Computer Science at the University of Portsmouth.

Scholarships

These include the Chancellor's Global Academic Merit Scholarship, offering a £5,000 fee reduction, and the Vice Chancellor's Global Development Scholarship, providing a £2,500 fee reduction for eligible students from specific countries. 

Additionally, there is an EU Scholarship that matches UK student fees for EU, EEA, or Swiss nationals. The Faculty of Science and Health Global Postgraduate Taught Scholarship gives a £2,000 fee reduction for relevant courses.
